TYPES OF THERAPY
Couple's Therapy
Couple's therapy is a noninvassive form of therapy to help provide a safe space that couples can discuss their feelings freely and openly. With a therapist present, the couple can learn techniques to better communicate, resolve conflicts, learn effective listen skills, and more.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy allows an individual to explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors for the purpose of problem solving or achieving higher levels of functioning in a safe and supportive environment. Dr. Hennessy utilizes a transtheoretical approach in therapy, which combines ideas and strategies from more than one theoretical approach to meet the specific needs of each individual client; core beliefs and proven techniques are selected and combined based upon the client's presenting problem and readiness for change.
Group Therapy
Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. Group therapy can be utilized for a variety of purposes including social skill development, stress management, and parenting to name a few. Group therapy allows members to receive and offer support to one another, role model appropriate behavior, and feel connected to others who experience similar difficulties and/or symptoms.
Play Therapy
Play therapy is commonly used with children to help them express themselves emotionally with toys rather than through verbalization of their feelings. Children use play to work through their experiences in a safe and non-threatening manner. Dr. Hennessy uses non-directive play therapy, which means that the child is in charge of the session to play in a free manner so that he/she is free to work through their problems to work towards a solution.
